Gone From My Sight: The Dying Experience
“Gone From My Sight is a gift to all those seeking to understand death and the dying process. It is a valuable resource to both hospice staff and those they serve. We receive rave reviews from family members about The Hospice Blue Book that demystifies the stages of dying and leaves them feeling more prepared, and at ease, as their loved ones’ lives come to a close. Barbara Karnes, RN writes with great clarity and simplicity and this book is proof positive - good things come in small packages.” - Betty Oldanie, RN, BSN, MS, Vice President of Planning, Suncoast Hospice
What are the signs of dying? Death from disease doesn't just occur; there is a process. People die in stages of months, weeks, days, and hours. Having this knowledge will help address the fear of death and dying that most of us bring to the bedside of a person who is dying.

This is a great booklet that we use in our hospice admission packets to give out to our hospice patients families. It has such great information to help families understand & what to expect with the dying process of their loved ones.

Hi Theresa, thanks for the positive comments. You might think about adding The Eleventh Hour to your packet. While Gone explains what is happening, Hour guides those present with what they can do as all is happening. A great pair of support and guidance. Blessings to you and your hospice for the good work you are doing. Barbara
All 5 of the end of life booklets
I am a retired Hospice RN, certified. We used these booklets all of the time with our patients and families. Recently, two dear friends called me as they each had close relatives at the end of their lives and the families were feeling very confused and upset. I immediately sent for your booklets, put on my Hospice hat (and pin) and did the very best I could to help them calm, to see the good that Hospice care was doing for their loved one and other family members. This would not have been nearly as successful without your clear speaking, loving and informative booklets. Thank you for having them available.

Hi Frances, we hospice nurses come in handy even when we are retired. What a good friend you are. Blessings to you in the work you are continuing to do. Barbara
Game changer
In my 55 years of nursing including 20 years as a Navy Nurse during Vietnam era I have done lots of death and dying support/ teaching… but this booklet was a fabulous find for my sister who was losing& lost her husband to pancreatic cancer. She wouldn’t listen to me but this was so well written she understood what was happening. I have bought several booklets to give out to my friends and church members who are going through various trials. Thank you.

Hi Meredith, thank you for your supportive words. Blessings! Barbara
Exactly what happened!
This book was put in my lap only minutes after my husband died. After reading it cover to cover, I told my sons that their father could have been the poster child for this down to earth rendition of dying. Many thanks, Barbara, for your sensitive telling of the experience we all dread but shouldn't!

Thank you Susan for your comment. I wish you and your sons had had it sooner. You may find my grief booklet My Friend, I Care helpful. Blessings to you all. Barbara
The right words at the right time
I was given a copy of this book at St Joseph's hospice where my wife was spending the last days of her life. I read it immediately and it put into perspective her final months of life. The prayer was especially fitting as we have always loved cruising the seas. I ordered additional copies to share with friends.
BK Books
Peter, I'm glad you found my booklet helpful. I too love to cruise the seas and find the poem comforting. Blessings! Barbara
